Our interest in PIMMS is to...

•  exchange knowledge regarding mobility management in general as well as good practices.

•  increase social and political awareness in the sustainable mobility.

•  explore specifically: ways to school, bicycles, industrial zones accessibility, road safety, educational issues.

1. Main characteristics of the city/region

•  Population 200,000

•  Urban and inter-urban bus services, taxi and railway inter-urban services

•  Modal split: the displacements within Terrassa are made basically on foot (39%), in private vehicles (48%)and urban public transport (12%).

•  The City Council carries out the mobility planning policy in the fields that the law permits: traffic regulation, car park policy and urban public transport supply.

2. Main transport issues

•  Residential areas in the North of the city and the industrial areas in the South.

•  Deficient public transport supply in the industrial areas.

•  Deficient bicycle network.

•  No integrated infrastructures between 2 interurban railways.

•  Change in commuter behaviour: More use of private car with longer journeys and travel times.

3. Mobility management domains of special interest

CLEAN VEHICLES

Few expertises, only in bio-diesel.

INDIVIDUALISED TRAVEL MARKETING

The project AGATA represents a webpage that offers all the transport options available in two specific points of the city. Currently, it can be used only by a small group of people (workers of two industrial areas in the city).

MOBILITY & EDUCATION

There is an educational project entitled “Go to school” that has carried out some proposals regarding safety.

POLICY & INTEGRATION

In 2002 the urban Mobility Plan was approved. This plan presents all the issues related to urban mobility, including specific mobility plans for industrial areas and schools.

Moreover, there have been done efforts to enhance the principles of sustainable mobility in the new development areas of the city. For this purpose, an own methodology has been developed that helps to investigate on the transport demand generated in these areas.

ROAD SAFETY

The participatory process carried out during the elaboration of the Local Transport Plan put special attention to the road safety topic.
