"
gesamten Verkehr. traffiQ arbeitet

Frankfurt is called
the financial capital of Hesse, even the
European Central Bank (ECB) is based here. Each day many commuters travel to Frankfurt and therefore, mobility management plays an
important role for the city. traffiQ is
a 100% subsidiary of the City of Frankfurt and
manages public transport across the Frankfurt
area. Good mobility management gives a chance to work out better solutions not
only for public transport, but for traffic in general. traffiQ works together with other local authorities to improve
mobility management in the region: A newly founded company focuses on effective
coordination for public and individual transport. We believe that PIMMS offers us a chance to
learn from other successful examples of good mobility management in other
countries. " |
We would like to receive “best practice methods” from other
PIMMS project members regarding all issues relating to public transport, especially
• marketing campaigns
• mobility advisory (for companies and individualized mobility
advisory)
• mobility management in general
1. Main characteristics of the city/region
• The principal town in the Rhine-Main region
• It has a population
of 650,00 and additionally about 400,000 daily commuters
• traffiQ does the planning, financing and marketing for
public transport in Frankfurt
• Frankfurt has a well developed public transport system: bus,
tram, underground (55 bus lines, 8 tram lines, 7 underground lines) and
commuter trains.
2. Main transport issues
• Too many commuters at the daily peak hours.
• Some underground vehicles are old and need replacement
3. Mobility management domains of special interest
• More effective public campaigns to promote public transport
• Managing the introduction of “cleaner” vehicles

- There are two newly founded companies which both focus
on effective coordination for public and individual transport: the regional
"IVM" for the whole Rhine-Main-region and the local "IVM" for the City of
Frankfurt; "IVM" = Integriertes Verkehrsmanagement (integrated
mobility/transport management company); the members of the regional "IVM" are
from different regional public organisations and authorities.
- Cooperation with the City of Frankfurt and other
(regional) public organisations (i.e. "bike + business").
